Seasteading- homesteading on the high seas

May 4, 2008

H/T to The Wild Ox Moan for bringing seasteading to my attention. It’s definitely a good time to start thinking outside the box. Their wiki and forum may have some interesting content before long, though right now it looks as though the web version of the project is still in its early stages.

Alleged Spitzer call girl bikini picture (and probable debunk of “Kristen” profile pic)

March 13, 2008

Hey, if AP news decides it’s legitimate to obtain and reprint a bikini picture from a MySpace profile page, then it must be okay, right? But we want the full sized version front and center at the top of the page, please. Text optional. Let’s face it, this is what viewers want, so let’s just be up front and give it to them. They want to get a sense of what $4300 for an hour or two will buy, right? They want to post “I’d hit it- but not at that price” and other snide comments on digg stories. Sure, they’ll also want to check out her song What We Want, which runs 3:07 and can currently be purchased for $0.61, but that’s not “what we really want”. We want titillation. We want bread and circuses. We want the next Britney or Paris. We want spectacle and scandal and MySpace privacy invasion and the text of text messages on a victimless crime. Give us more surveillance, invade our privacy, data mine us, we don’t give a sh*t. We want to see “naked YouTube where I can her boobs“. That’s what we want. We’re Americans, after all… so here you go America- here’s “what we want”. And for a few thousand dollars, you can even rent it (or something similar) for an hour or two. While Big Brother and eventually the rest of the world watch, no less. Bah.

Not satisfied? Gawker claims to have the definitive (so far)picture collection which includes a version of the above pic which is a whole 10 pixels by 10 pixels bigger than the one I have. Oh, and the supposed Emperor’s Club ad screenshot for “Kristen” (which looks quite fake to me, BTW- for one thing they’ve left off the VIP, which I haven’t seen left off of any of the other pages; for another they show the top of the model’s head while blurring the face- not the MO of the Emperor’s Club VIP at all as far as I can tell. Also any screenshotter worth their salt will show the URL which is being screenshotted, IMO. That’s called documentation).

Still looking for more? Unfortunately for you, the Internet Archive appears to have missed out on the “Kristen” pics, but you can still get a few eyesfull of the Emperor’s Club competition there- Companions, Escorts, the whole shebang (sorry, pun intended).

Dallas Morning News on Sibel Edmonds- front page on Digg now

February 21, 2008

Currently front page for the week as well as front page on most recent on digg.  Here’s hoping that that will give the story some more needed exposure and that the Digg submission of the Sibel Edmonds coverage by the Dallas Morning News will continue to ride on page one at digg for awhile. Oh, and not just because I was the submitter of it…

New YouTube Sibel Edmonds video- Sibel Edmonds: No Voice - No Title

January 29, 2008

I just discovered a new YouTube video on Sibel Edmonds’ story- Sibel Edmonds: No Voice - No Title. I’m still hoping we’ll get one of these to go viral- the views, comments, llinks etc. in the first 2 days are crucial. 50K + views will get it into the most watched list; embeds don’t count towards the total. I suspect the effort will take coordination; so far, the videos which I’ve tried this with have not come anywhere near the number of views needed. Nonetheless, I’ll keep blogging these new ones as they come out and hope we can get something started.

I hope others will join in an effort by watching, blogging, emailing, commenting on, perhaps producing (give me a heads up before release and I can spread the word) such videos.

heck, you can even spread this blog post around if you want…

More from the UK on Valerie Plame & Sibel Edmonds- Tip-off thwarted nuclear spy ring probe

January 27, 2008

Tip-off thwarted nuclear spy ring probe

AN investigation into the illicit sale of American nuclear secrets was compromised by a senior official in the State Department, a former FBI employee has claimed.

The official is said to have tipped off a foreign contact about a bogus CIA company used to investigate the sale of nuclear secrets.

The firm, Brewster Jennings & Associates, was a front for Valerie Plame, the former CIA agent. Her public outing two years later in 2003 by White House officials became a cause célèbre.

The claims that a State Department official blew the investigation into a nuclear smuggling ring have been made by Sibel Edmonds, 38, a former Turkish language translator in the FBI’s Washington field office.

As usual, Luke Ryland has a great analysis of the article up on his blog. I can’t recommend his work on this story highly enough.

From the article, once again-

The State Department official said on Friday: “It is impossible to find a strong enough way to deny these allegations which are both false and malicious.”

Once again, the Sunday Times article appears to have originally had a somewhat different title than what it is now running by. In this case, they’ve left off a four letter (plus apostrophe s) word which rhymes with hole and can be used to describe Avogadro’s number, a burrowing mammal, a Mexican sauce, and an epidermal disorder, among other definitions. Hard to imagine how such a word might have slipped into the headline by accident in the first place…
