Microsoft Yahoo merger apparently not happening- Big Eight media corporations stay at eight for the present
That seems to be the latest news. I can’t say I’m sorry, since it would have further consolidated an already far too consolidated media. Earlier today I spent some time adding to my few names, many boards map so that it would include all 8 of the big eight media corporations and then going through the larger media corporations on that map looking for board members who sit on several Fortune 500 companies who weren’t previously on the map. Unfortunately, I don’t have a link to that work right now (I’m hoping muckety.com can rescue it). A couple of new names which deserve a place on the few names, many boards map anyway are John L. Thornton and Charles H. Noski. Adding Mary Agnes Wilderotter (she deserves at least an honorable mention on that map) and Eric E. Schmidt (not quite ready for a seat at the big table yet, but I needed someone to add Google in to the mix) put all the big eight media (and several other large ones) on the map amidst a lot of Fortune 500 companies. Then I tried to flesh out the BOD overlaps, focusing on people who are on the media BODs and other Fortune 500 companies (mostly ones I already had on the map, so that I didn’t have to go through every single name). Anyway, if I get a link for that map, I’ll post it here.
ETA- here it is (though I’m noticing some deadweight snuck in to the bigger picture)
