H/T to deconstructing the reverie for pointing me towards looking around for videos on algae as biofuel. I’ve been interested in the idea for awhile now, since reading what wikipedia has to say about the idea in the algaculture entry. The biggest issue I have with a lot of the biofuel talk is that it often involves growing corn- a food crop (no doubt with petrochemical fertilizers) to turn into a source of energy. Recycling/reusing biofuels- I like the idea of that much more.
In any case, I think algaes may be one of our best hopes, both in terms of an energy source and a protein source (most likely small scale homegrown spirulina). Provided, of course, that the necessary technologies get developed instead of suppressed. Anyway, here are a couple of videos on algaes as biofuel…
